Nintendo Free Radio 64: The Nate Squared Chronicles

Posted by nintendofreeradio in Episode 64

We're one short for a game of Mario Party 2.

The backlog is over, we're back to parity with the Famicast, and the fall release season is about to fall upon us like a tidal wave of bankruptcy in this historic episode of Nintendo Free Radio. Donald opens the New Business proceedings with a visual novel - emphasis on the novel - in the form of one of his most anticipated games of the rest of the year, Steins;Gate. Stephen is paying off a longstanding bet by Walking With Dinosaurs, which may pay off a three year old Twitter promise. Austen takes it to the end of New Business with the teen slasher fic/game Until Dawn and an extended look at Tales from the Borderlands Episode 4 (assume spoilers from about 45m30 until the break music just after the 1 hour mark).

Following a brief Whatcha Watchin' with some streets ahead paintball and a NXT update, it's time for an extended Feature discussion on the Nintendo 64 because really, we're contractually obligated to do one for this episode (and not invite Jon/James/Greg). Underrated games, Western influence and just how bad ***** ** really is (it's so bad) all appear. In the Mushrooms, Stephen has to be prepared, Austen's enjoying adventure while simultaneously cursing out Day 1 spoilers, and Donald may be about to reach an Amiibo breaking point. (During the edit of this show, he bought a Captain Falcon, so who knows at this point?)

We'll be recording the next episode shortly, and we'd love to have some more Listener Mail, so drop us a line in the usual spots. Until next time, may the way of the hero lead to the Triforce.

This podcast was recorded on August 30 and was edited by Donald Theriault. All music and clips used under fair use provisions and for context of discussion. RIP Wes Craven, whose death was announced immediately after we stopped tape.
